Foilist Nzingha Prescod falls in Round of 16

After a victory in the opening Round of 32, foilist Nzingha Prescod, CC ‘15, lost to France's Astrid Guyart in the women’s individual foil Round of 16 on Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro.

Prescod started off the day in impressive fashion, earning a convincing 15-9 victory over Mexico’s Nataly Michel Silva. Silva, a veteran of the international competition circuit, was competing in her first Olympics.

But Prescod was unable to sustain her momentum against Guyart, who reached the Round of 16 in the 2012 Olympics in London. This year, the Frenchwoman prevailed 14-11 over Prescod before losing in the quarterfinals to eventual gold medalist Inna Deriglazova of Russia.

Prescod was one of two American foilists competing. Lee Kiefer also reached the Round of 16, before falling to China’s Liu Yongshi.
